What happens when you mesh together big hearts, creativity, a company with an emerging sense of purpose and a worthwhile cause?

You get an exhibition of innovative Indonesian art, collectible designer wear, and a pop-up shop that succeeded within its first night to raise Rp103 million for Rachel House, a foundation that provides palliative care for poor children in Greater Jakarta.

The pop-up store — selling T-shirts and notebooks designed by well-known artists Darbotz , Arkiv Vilmansa, and Ronald Apriyan. Three of these artists were brought together by fashion and art wunderkind Patrick Owen in an exhibition called Renoscape that demonstrates what can be done when creativity is inspired by technology and design of an edgy phone like the Reno.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Owen, the artists, and OPPO, which makes the OPPO Reno, a smartphone series that boasts, among other things, an incredible 10X zoom camera.

When Rachel House was introduced to Patrick Owen three weeks ago and explained their mission to alleviate the suffering of terminally ill children from families that cannot otherwise afford palliative care, he immediately offered to help. He pledged to donate all the proceeds from the T-Shirts and agenda books (designed by the three artists) that are sold at the pop-up store to Rachel House.

The result was yesterday’s event that raised Rp 103 million raised from the proceeds of the T-shirts, agenda books and sales of Reno sets, as well as donations from OPPO itself and personal donations from OPPO CEO Ivan Lau and Patrick Owen.

With that amount of money, Rachel House will be able to fund a palliative nurse for a year. The nurse would be able to care for 8 to 10 seriously ill children at any point in time.

As the PR firm that helped in a small way to bring all the players together, we are extremely chuffed to see this happen. We are so impressed by the creativity and generosity of Patrick Owen; our client OPPO for its emerging sense of social purpose in a market they entered only seven years ago; and the many generous people, including celebrities and the social elite, who attended the event.

The fundraising does not stop there though. The T-shirts and Agenda books will be on sale in the pop-up store until August 31 and all the proceeds will continue to be donated to Rachel House.
