What happens when loving kindness and play come together? For 56 seriously-ill children – patients of Rachel House, the answer was found in laughter that came easily and joy that felt almost magical.

Precious memory shaped by joy, care and connection.

Children living with serious illnesses (age 6-12) experienced a rare and special day of play, connection and togetherness at Eddoko, made possible through the continued support of AEON Fantasy Indonesia. The One Fine Day event, which marked the 2nd year of close collaboration between AEON Fantasy Indonesia and Rachel House, brought precious sparkle to the children’s eyes. A day of magic and play for these terminally ill children and their caregivers amidst significant medical, social and economic challenges.

Lasting Partnership Forged to Bring Smiles to Children

Behind this magical day were months of preparation and intensive collaboration – a story that began long before the children arrived at the playground.

Bringing One Fine Day to life took more than an act of goodwill. Over two months, teams from Rachel House, AEON Fantasy Indonesia and Edokko, worked diligently over every detail of the preparation, guided by a shared commitment to care, compassion and safety.

Every detail was thoughtfully planned, from transportation for the patients and their caregivers to the guidance and instructions for every party involved to ensure ultimate safety of the children. AEON Fantasy Indonesia’s trust and dedication helped turn the dream into reality, while Edokko created a safe and welcoming space ready to receive the children with diverse needs. With Rachel House’s clinical team on standby and every consideration in place, families felt reassured and children played freely. Care walked alongside joy, transforming One Fine Day into a safe and magical experience filled with play, wonder and joyful laughter.

When One Fine Day Becomes Treasured Memories of Joy

“For some, this may look like just playing. But for my child whose typical outing is to the hospital, this is a dream come true. Today, she gets to play like any other child.” shared one caregiver.

In the middle of play, the Rachel House team became their gentle shelter.

For many children, a day at the playground may feel ordinary. However, for a group of 57 seriously ill children who are receiving palliative care at Rachel House, the One Fine Day at Eddoko was simply extraordinary.

On this special day, the children were not patients navigating illness, they were simply children at play. Laughter filled the air as they raced down the colourful winding slides, swung high into the air with exuberance, and danced freely with total abandonment and explored every nook with curiosity and wonder.

In the middle of all the laughter, Billa* (8 years old) whispered with a bright grin on his face, “I’m so happy today! I get to play and meet so many new friends. This is my absolute favourite day!.”

Throughout the day, Rachel House’s clinical team stayed vigilant and on duty, ensuring every child was safe. With medical support on standby, caregivers felt reassured and relaxed, allowing them to enjoy a day of respite that is much needed.

Play became more than fun for the children as they experienced freedom, dignity, and the feeling of being seen beyond their illness. Happiness unfolded in a beautiful harmony, in an environment where compassionate care walks alongside joy – the heart of Rachel House’s mission.

Joyful Respite for Families

“Seeing my child play freely gives me peace, and I found the space to let go of what I’ve been holding inside.” said a mother at the One Fine Day event.

One Fine Day was created not only for the children, but also for the families who walk every step of the journey beside them.

While the children were playing in the safe embrace of the Eddoko and Rachel House team, their parents and caregivers were given the precious space of healing and respite.  An art and reflection session – curated especially for them – where through soft colors on canvas, gentle conversations, and shared silence, they were given a rare and precious moment to breathe, relax and to finally care for their own hearts.

One mother shared: “This beautiful day reminds me that I’m not alone. I feel understood, calm and stronger to keep going.”

A quiet moment that allows families to breathe and feel supported.

We are deeply grateful to AEON Fantasy Indonesia for seeing our children not as patients, but as children who deserve joy, laughter, and beautiful memories. As the day drew to a close, smiles lingered, laughter softened into goodbyes, and One Fine Day became more than a program. It becomes a memory our children and families will carry with them, a story of being welcomed, cared for, and celebrated.

Thank you, AEON Fantasy Indonesia, for turning kindness into joy and for making this One Fine Day bloom again.
